Tina Flaherty, LISW, is a Psychotherapist with over 34 years of social work experience – including 30 of those years being spent specializing in individual, couples and/or family therapy. She treats a variety of mental health conditions, and additionally offers support and guidance around a vast array of life issues. She is licensed in the state of Iowa, and maintains a private practice in Bettendorf. There she specializes in anxiety, trauma (including complicated grief), interpersonal issues, and mood disorders. Her style is to individualize treatment tools based on each client’s needs. She offers daytime hours Monday through Friday.
Tina has been a member of The National Association of Social Workers since 1989. She graduated with a BA in Social Work from Clarke College in 1990, and earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 1994.
Early in her academia and career she volunteered for numerous programs including a crisis hotline, parenting program; and as a domestic violence advocate, practicum supervisor, and board member for CHADD, an organization for ADHD support and awareness. Additionally she has publicly spoken on such topics as “How Professionals Reach Diagnosis,” “Children In the Middle,” and was featured in a documentary for teen suicide prevention, entitled “If You Only Knew: The Journey Through Teen Depression and Suicide”.
After working in a variety of settings, including a government organization, not-for-profit agencies, and a residential treatment for youth, Tina transitioned into private practice in 1998. She has worked collaboratively with teams of professionals through the judicial system, school systems, other area agencies and medical systems.
Tina is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her approach is to provide practical, warm, direct feedback while honing in on client strengths and learning styles to gain the best results. She utilizes methods and techniques that are creative, consistent with those learning styles, and are known to be effective. With empathy and understanding, she is focused and determined to assist her clients toward the breakthroughs they are committed to working for.
